In other areas of this site you learned what pay as you go options are. You even learned about some of the pay as you go providers. Other sections taught you how to compare for price and more, including coverage areas.

This section is all about our mobile broadband speed test. You may not be familiar with what an Internet speed test is if you have never used one before. Usually when you have a service provider install home Internet service they will connect you then run a diagnostic via your computer as well as a speed test. The speed test will tell the technician that your computer and Internet is providing you with the speed you have purchased.

For mobile broadband you can do a similar test using our speed test tool. Our tester measures both the upload speed and the download speed of the Internet connection you have via your mobile broadband dongle. Whenever you have an Internet connection you can run a speed test. We offer you a way to run a speed test on your current Internet connection. This can serve several purposes. First, if you are using a dongle then you want to do a dongle speed test to find out if you are really getting the speed the company promised you. If you have forgotten what speed you have with your current dongle the speed test will reveal it for you, so as to help you get a better Internet connection.

For instance, if you are running 1.5 megabytes per second that is a fairly slow internet connection and you could be running 7.2mbps. You won’t know to upgrade or change providers if you are unaware of what your current product is offering you.

Test Your Mobile Broadband Speed

The speed test tests two parameters of your Internet connection. The first part of the test is the download speed test. This is what the 1.5 or 7.2 refers to. You should close out all of your browse tabs except the one with the speed test. Also close any applications using Internet access to ensure the computer is running nothing but the speed test. The speed test application will do the work for you to see if you are getting the right speed.

Once the first test is completed it will show you the results and begin the second speed test which tests the upload speed. This is usually not more than 1.5mbps. After the two parts of the test are over you will get to see the results. You can then click on the comparison tool to find out what providers and pay as you go dongles meet these same parameters or exceed them.

Often if you have trouble with your connection being slow it is because the speed is not enough for what you require or you have a weak signal connecting to the hot spot via your computer and its dongle. You can fix a weak signal by getting closer to the signal making it stronger, but you can only improve speed by improving the technology you have.

Given your needs and desire for a good connection, it behooves you to learn about your current internet speeds through the speed test.
